Faten Gaddes

Visual Artist in Residence, 2020-2021

Faten Gaddes is a French/Tunisian photographer who was Born in Tunisia in 1974. She graduated in Interior Design while indulging in her passion for photography and sharpening her skills through training classes.  She is a member of the Visual Art Association (VA). Faten Gaddes has repeatedly shown her work, particularly in Sidi Bou Said at A.Farhat Gallery in Paris at the IMA-Arab World Institute, in Bamako at the Aga Khan museum Bamako biennial, in Lisbon at the Gulbenkian Foundation in Algiers at the Modern Art Museum (MAMA), in Rome at the Villa Borghese, in Berlin at the IFA gallery, in New York at the United Nations headquarters, in Paris at the Quai Branly Museum Photoquai Biennial, in Tunis at DreamCity Residency Festival, in « el Medina » in Marseille at the  “MUCEM” the Museum of Modern Art, in New York at the Pratt Institute, in Paris at the ICI Institute of Islamic Cultures, in Venice at the Tunisian Pavillon Venice Biennial, in D.C at Katzen Arts Center American University, in Marrakech  at 6.4 Gallery, in Paris at Sisley Foundation, and in New York at Africa Center with Moleskine Foundation.

Faten Gaddes is the winner of the first prize of the Smartphone Short Film Festival in the USA / August 2019. In February 2020, Faten Gaddes was part of the New York City Artist Safe Haven Residency Program. This initiative is led by a coalition of organizations working to safeguard free expression, and includes Artistic Freedom Initiative, Residency Unlimited, Westbeth Artists Housing and The Shelley & Donald Rubin Foundation.

Faten works in an artistic and political vein, with an emphasis on the duty to memory. Recently in Tunis, Tunisia one of her works symbolizing the violence experienced by women across different religions was destroyed.

Her works are in the permanent collections of the Tunisian government, the French Development Agency, the Foundation Pierre Bergé, The Moleskine Foundation, The Kamel Lazaar Foundation and many collectors in Tunisia and abroad.
